Service Description

Week 1: Introduction to Sewing- (2 hours) Objective: Familiarize students with sewing tools, safety, and basic stitches. Activities: Icebreaker activity: student/teacher introduction. Introduce sewing tools: scissors, needles, thread, fabric, pins, seam rippers. Safety tips for using needles, scissors, and sewing machines. Practice threading a needle and tying knots. Learn basic hand stitches. Quick project: Hand stitch a simple felt mini pillow. Week 2: Machine Sewing Basics- (2 hours)- Objective: Introduce sewing machines and practice straight stitches. Activities: Demonstrate basic sewing machine setup (threading, bobbin winding). Discuss safety rules for machine use. Practice sewing straight lines on scrap fabric. Start project: Throw pillow Week 3: Sewing Project – Throw Pillow- (2 hours) Objective: Complete a pillow using hand and machine sewing techniques. Activities: Lay out and pin fabric, ensuring proper alignment. Learn and mark seam allowances for neat and durable seams. Sew the edges with a machine, leaving an opening for stuffing. Stuff the pillow evenly and fill all corners. Hand-sew the opening with a slip stitch for a polished finish. Week 4: Introduction to Tote Bag Project- (2 hours) Objective: Launch the tote bag-making project, focusing on sewing techniques such as creating a lining and French seams. Activities: Overview: Introduce the tote bag project, discussing the purpose and structure of the bag, along with the importance of French seams for durability and a clean finish. Demonstration: Provide a step-by-step demonstration of the initial assembly process, including aligning fabric edges, attaching the handles and lining, and sewing the sides using French seams. Hands-On Practice: Guide participants as they begin assembling their tote bags, ensuring individual support to build confidence and refine sewing skills. Week 5: Completing the Tote Bag and Celebration- (2 hours) Objective: Finalize the tote bag project and celebrate participants’ achievements. Activities: Sewing Completion: Finish sewing the edges for a polished look, ensuring all seams are properly reinforced.

We kindly request your full commitment to all five weeks of the program as a courtesy to our team and fellow participants. The program follows a progressive learning structure, where each class builds upon the previous one. If you miss a class, it will be your responsibility to coordinate with the instructors to catch up on your own time. The program is designed for everyone to learn together, step by step. Please note that refunds are not available.
